Here are a few pictures from the trip Richard and I took to California in mid-October. Albeit a tad short, we had such a fabulous time visiting with some of Richard’s friends, exploring bustling San Francisco and the beautiful bounty of Napa valley. As an avid wine enthusiast, Richard was in his element, and the wine-tasting started early
I was thrilled to bits to accidentally come across a stunning photo exhibit at one of the wineries in the Valley and see one of my favourite Jock Sturges photo of the girl with the freckled face.

Nothing more beautiful than to spend a wonderful weekend away with my loved ones…
And, I got to meet the lovely Mike, Christine and their wee sweetie for the first time!

Every so often, I am reminded of why my job is ABSOLUTELY the best job there is! I was contacted by Woodwynn Farms (www.woodwynnfarm.org) yesterday afternoon (at 2pm to be precise) asking me if I was willing to go up in an airplane (at 3pm) to photograph their stunning sunflower project. Ahhh – yes! So up we went to the airport, greeted by a super friendly pilot on a gloriously sunny day! Pretty sweet so far! The pilot informs me that the only window that opens is up at the front with him, so in I hop! He then proceeds to inform me that I will be piloting the plane with him! What?%*$ And so, that’s exactly what I did! Took off, flew the plane for awhile, took some images of the beautiful Woodwynn property and landed the plane! Yeah, no big deal! It was AWESOME!!!! What a day!
Background info: Woodwynn Farms “believes in people,” and is so motivated by that message that they planted a 5.2-acre message of HOPE, with 20,000 sunflowers, 1000 red poppies, and flax. The amazingness that happens on this farm is truly breathtaking and awe-inspiring. The sunflower project is no different.
Visit the Farm this Saturday August 14th for their Open House where you will get a chance to view the sunflower project and hear Richard speak about the wonderful homefullness mission of the farm.
Such a pleasure to photograph Heather MacLeod, Co-Director of the Victoria Moksha Yoga. Truly a beautiful soul. Watch for more images of her and the studio over the next year! Visit the studio at 1088 Fort Street with your mat and towel, and tell Heather I sent you!

How exciting it was for me to photograph this family home before it’s major facelift! I cannot wait to return to see the change!

Out on assignment photographing the 150th anniversary of Park Canada’s Fort Rodd Hill. I must say, it was one of the most organized celebrations I’ve ever had the chance to photograph! Everything was right on schedule
for this wonderful 2-day celebration!

While vacationing in my beautiful hometown, I had the opportunity to shoot an assignment for UpMagazine. This assignment brought me to historic Grosse Île.
From Wikipedia: “Grosse Isle is an island in the St. Lawrence River east of Quebec, situated in the Gulf of St. Lawrence in Canada. It is one of the islands of the 21-island Isle-aux-Grues archipelago. It is part of the municipality of Saint-Antoine-de-l’Isle-aux-Grues, located in the Chaudière-Appalaches region.
Also known as the Irish Memorial National Historic Site of Canada, the island was the site of an immigration depot which predominantly housed Irish Immigrants coming to Canada to escape the Great Irish Famine, 1845-1849. In 1832, the Lower Canadian Government set up this depot to contain the cholera epidemic at that time that was believed to be caused by the large influx of European immigrants. Thousands of Irish were quarantined on Grosse Isle from 1832 to 1847.
It is believed that over 3000 Irish died on the island and over 5000 are currently buried in the cemetery there; many died en route. Most who died on the island were infected with typhus, which sprang up from the conditions there in 1847. Grosse Isle is the largest Irish potato famine burial ground outside Ireland. After Confederation, the buildings and equipment were modernized to meet the standards of the new Canadian government’s immigration policies. The island is sometimes called Canada’s Ellis Island, although this term is also used to describe the Pier 21 immigration facility in Halifax.”
My recent shoot for UpMagazine featuring Cowichan Valley food – Yum, delectable!
The three spots featured are: Amusé Bistro (www.amusebistro.com), Hilary’s Cheese (www.hilarycheese.com) and Drumroaster Coffee (www.drumroaster.com). I definitely recommend all three!
